Holi Hangama 2017 : What is the Color of Love?

colors

With Valentine’s day fast approaching, haven’t we all started seeing a flood of red, pink and purple hearts in all of social media?   The color red has almost become synonymous with love and with the month of February in modern times! But did you know that the word February has its root in the Latin word februarius, which means to purify! In that sense, wouldn’t white be more apt to represent love? For most of us who love chocolates, wouldn’t the color brown, without a doubt, be the color of love? However, if you ask someone who likes to eat healthy, they would perhaps choose green as the color of love!  This brings us to an interesting question! Does love really have a color? If so, what is the color of love?

As always, our scriptures have answers to all our questions! They state that the Divine mother, Shree Radha Rani is the very embodiment of divine love.  If love indeed has a color, it would certainly be the same color as Shree Radha!  But, what is the color of Shree Radha? Let’s look at the scriptures again for the answer!

Shree Radha Rani is hailed in the scriptures as being – “Tapta Kanchana Gaurangi” – the color of molten gold! It is said that even the brilliance of a million suns fall short of matching the brilliance of her golden hue. The sparkle of her eyes are compared to the soothing white moonlight. She adorns herself with garments of blue, that match the color of her beloved Lord Shree Krishna’s complexion. Her long black tresses are decorated with beautiful flowers, fragrant flowers of every color that pleases the Lord. Her feet are hailed to be of the color pink which cannot be matched by all the lotus flowers put together!  The green, red, yellow, white gems in her necklaces are said to dazzle to such an extent that even the Lord Himself cannot take His eyes off her!

So, what is the color of Shree Radha? As we can see, every color that we can think of, has been associated with the divine mother. She is indeed an embodiment of inclusion. So we can conclude that the true color of love is inclusion, which is really another synonym of love!

So this Holi, let us celebrate our diversity and our differences with the color of inclusion! Mark your calendars for Radha Krishna Temple’s Holi Hangama on March 26th from 12 to 5 pm, at The South Fork Ranch.
