Tulsi Vivah Utsav at The Radha Krishna Temple

tulsi-vivah

It is always a celebration of God’s love and compassion at the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas! Ever since the grand inauguration this summer, the temple has offered some of the best and most wonderful events to the community. While all the celebrations – the Ganesh Chaturthi, the divine Janmashtami festivities, the resplendent Radhashtami event, the Navaratri Mela and Food Festival, the grand annual Diwali dinner, and a wondrous six-day DiwaliFest –  are still fresh in the minds of devotees, the temple is already getting ready for the most gorgeous and divine wedding of the year! Yes, the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas is hosting its first Tulsi Vivah Utsav on November the 4th, from 11am to 2pm.

WHAT IS TULSI VIVAH?

When the supreme Lord descended on Earth in His all-inclusive form of Shree Krishna five thousand years ago, He made Himself easily accessible to all His devotees. Saints sing praises of His leelas (divine pastimes) that show His compassion and saulabhya (easiness of attainment.) Among those leelas, one of the prominent ones is the Tulsi Vivah.

Tulsi Vivah is the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant (holy basil), reverentially referred to as Vrinda Devi, to Lord Krishna. This ceremony is typically performed in the Holy Hindu month of Kartik in temples and houses to this day!

WHAT TO EXPECT AT TULSI VIVAH?

At the Radha Krishna Temple, preparations are going on for the divine wedding! The wedding ceremony will start at 11 am and proceed until 2 pm on November 4th.There will be opportunities for devotees to participate in the bridegroom’s barāt and/or perform Kanyādān, giving away the bride, which is the greatest offering one can present to the Supreme Lord. This will be a time to immerse oneself in devotion and enjoy the nectar of Krishna bhakthi, while dancing and singing in an atmosphere of divine love!  Following the wedding ceremony will be a grand Mahaprasad lunch served by Yugal Kunj, the temple’s very own kitchen!

Excitement is building among devotees! “What better way to a closer devotional relationship with the Lord!” remarks Pooja, a devotee from Frisco.  Renjini, another devotee from Allen, shares, “We are fortunate to pass on such traditions and religious heritage to our children.”

WHY PARTICIPATE IN TULSI VIVAH?

Padma Purān states:

वृन्दा वृन्दावनी विश्वपूजिता विश्वपावनी।
पुष्पसार नन्दिनी च तुलसी कृष्ण जीवनी।।

Vndā Vndāvanī Viśvapūjitā Viśvapāvanī |

“Tulsi Devi, the incomparable form, never leaves Vrindāvan. The universe worships her, as she sanctifies the whole world. She is the essence of all flowers, and the life and soul of Shree Krishna.”

One who worships Tulsi Devi, an eternal associate and devotee of Shree Krishna, will quickly attain devotion at Shree Krishna’s lotus feet. Therefore, do not miss this opportunity to be a part of the divine celebrations!
