Mahashivratri Mela 2024

Join us for a grand celebration of Mahashivratri Mela on Mar 8th -  10th, 2024 at Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas, Allen!

Mahashivratri is one of the most devotional festivals celebrated in India and by people of Indian origin around the world. The word “Maha” means big or huge, “Ratri” means night and Shiv ji is the Lord in whom souls seek refuge. Thus, Mahashivratri is very significant for spiritual aspirants. On this evening and night, devotees engage in intense sadhana to enhance their spiritual growth.

Mahashivratri is also the occasion of the wedding of Shiv-Parvati. It symbolizes Mother Parvati's selfless devotion to Lord Shiva. For her sake, Lord Shiva transformed from his terrifying form into the beautiful Lord Chandrasekhar for the wedding. Read more

Kanwar Yatra

Saturday 9th March,  5:30 pm CST

new-long-divider-200x7.png

Experience the profound spirituality and unwavering devotion of Kanwar Yatra for Mahashivratri. This sacred pilgrimage symbolizes the unbreakable bond between devotees and Lord Shiva, as they embark on a journey of faith and endurance. By participating in Kanwar Yatra, you invite immense blessings, personal well-being, fulfillment of desires, and spiritual progress into your life.

Carrying the Kanwar, a shoulder pole adorned with pots filled with holy water, you become part of a timeless tradition that dates back to ancient Hindu mythology. The water held in these pots is believed to be highly potent and is used to perform Abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the Shivalinga in temples.

The roots of Kanwar Yatra lie in the legend of the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), where Lord Shiva consumed the poison (Halahala) to protect the universe. Witnessing Lord Shiva's act of sacrifice, devotees offer Abhishekam with holy water to cool his throat. Another legend associates Kanwar Yatra with Lord Ram, who carried water from the holy Ganga to perform Abhishekam for Lord Shiva.

As a Kanwariya, you undertake this sacred journey without ever placing the Kanwar on the ground. With each step towards the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas, you deepen your connection with divinity. On reaching the temple, where a Pran Pratishtith Shiva Lingam awaits, you conclude your spiritual odyssey by offering Jal Abhishekam.
