healthy-eating

Our body is the only place for us to live in.  The food we offer our body has the ability to heal or hurt, therefore good food is the wisest form of medicine.

WHAT IS HEALTHY EATING?

Healthy eating is different from dieting; it is not intended to reduce a significant amount of weight in a short space of time, instead it aims to make you feel great, energized and healthier.

Healthy eating incorporates three main ideas; eating a balanced diet, having a healthy attitude towards food and understanding the environmental impact of your diet. According to Medical News Today, (May 2017) healthful eating means consuming a balanced diet of nutrient-dense foods in the right quantities from all the food groups. Good nutrition along with physical exercise forms the basis of a healthy lifestyle.

WHY IS HEALTHY EATING IMPORTANT?

With more than 2 out of every 3 American adults now considered overweight or obese, healthful eating habits are more important than ever. Research shows that a good intake of fruit and vegetables can protect against heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy body weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, and promote your overall health and longevity.

WHAT IS SĀTTVIK FOOD?

It is often said that you are what you eat. Foods affect the balance between mind and body. Sāttvik or yogic foods are those that enhance the balance between mind and body, promoting a calm mind that is capable of shifting to higher consciousness. Sāttvik diet consists of seasonal foods, fruits, dairy products, nuts, seeds, oils, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and non-meat based proteins. Sāttvik meals are freshly prepared from fresh ingredients with great devotion and awareness.
