According to the American College of Cardiology, cardiovascular disease stands out as the leading cause of death in the United States, responsible for 840,768 deaths (635,260 cardiac) in 2016. Fatalities caused by heart disease are trending upward annually. In the ten year period between 2006 to 2016, the fatality rate increased by 18.6% for cardiovascular disease and by 31.8% for heart disease. From 2006 to 2016, the US death rate from CVD decreased by 18.6% and from coronary heart disease by 31.8%. Knowing an upward trend of continually growing percentage of the population affected, being aware of what to do should a loved one be facing such a situation could make a difference of life and death.
Osteoporosis deals with bone density and fragility of bones. As we age our bones have a tendency to lose density. Diet, lifestyle, genetics all play a role in the quality of our bones as we age. Unfortunately, over 55% of the US population over 50 years of age have low bone density. Of that population, for 10 million the condition is chronic and they suffer from osteoporosis.
Our diet has a huge impact on our health. The more we know about what we eat, the higher the probability we will make better food choices. Even late in life, changes in diet can have a huge impact on longevity and quality of life.
Refreshments will be served during the presentation while fresh and delicious vegetarian food will be available for purchase in the temple’s Yugal Kunj Canteen, during the program.
