Did You Care for Your Sweet Heart on this Valentine’s Day?

It was a beautiful and bright morning that took Texans to the freshness of the spring season, although the official spring season was one month away! It was the day before the Valentine’s Day. The morning started for some of us with a yoga session that focused on caring for the heart! Often, yoga is referred to as an activity to enhance our stability, flexibility, and even to strengthen our muscles. However, our experience in this yoga session was beyond that. As Swami Mukundananda ji always elucidates during his yoga and meditations programs, the word ‘Yog’  means ‘to unite’ and is derived from the word ‘Yuj,’  which means to ‘to join.’  Therefore, the aim of Yog  is to yoke the individual soul with the Supreme Soul. Yog  harmonizes, balances, purifies, and strengthens the body, mind, and soul of  the practitioner and that is what it was all about on that morning.

The instructor Marika Torok, a longtime practitioner and instructor of yoga, emphasized the importance of keeping the focus on the heart center for every asana. The participants were reminded throughout the session that the human heart is not just an organ that pumps blood; it is where the Supreme Soul is seated. That connecting with Him  in our heart is of paramount importance. It was amazing to learn how the line of energy in the body flows through heart, and how the heart radiates that energy outward spreading the warmth to the other people.

Various targeted asana s performed by the participants took this line of energy through various parts of their body, rejuvenating each one of them on the way. The instructor paid individual  attention to the students needing additional help, assuring that everyone performed the asanas the right way. There was a bonus towards the end of this 75minute session; that was subtle body relaxation! This is a unique aspect of the every session when the body relaxes completely and the thoughts become virtually nonexistent.

Overall, it was an excellent yoga session to cleanse and beautify the sweet heart within one’s own body through the science of yoga. The weekend started with a light heart and a stronger body, a necessary ingredient for a harmonious and healthy life!
